      • A new, ad-supported music downloading service called SpiralFrog said Tuesday it would make the catalogue of Vivendi's Universal Music Group available for free download in the U.S. and Canada.

        SpiralFrog will be a web-based service that will allow users to download Universal's music for free after watching an online advertisement. Universal's catalogue includes artists such as U2, Gwen Stefani and The Roots.

        The audio and video files available for download will be in Windows Media format and will be protected using Microsoft's digital rights management scheme.
